Comptroller of the Currency (OCC)

Baltimore, MD – June 25, 2024. SoKat, a local, woman-owned AI company with a deep track
record of awards and accolades for its niche ability to harness academic rigor to power
impactful, AI solutions for government and businesses, is excited to share news of their 8(a)
sole-source contract award at the Department of the Treasury's OCC. With this award, SoKat
becomes the first vendor to support OCC’s Solutions Lab in enhancing operational capabilities
and decision-making processes through the most advanced AI technologies.
Through this contract, SoKat will provide comprehensive technical, management, supervision,
and labor support to develop AI solutions that address specific business challenges and
enhance the operational capacity of OCC.

"We are primarily excited to embark on this journey with OCC because, at this critical early
stage of government’s AI adoption, it’s crucial that agencies start with AI advisors who can
empower their own staff," said Susan An, CEO of SoKat. "Government should always keep in
mind that they hold the most valuable resource in building effective AI solutions: Data. The first
question that every agency needs to answer, therefore, in developing their AI strategy is: ‘How
do we manage and leverage this asset internally?’

“When agencies invest in an internal AI solutions lab, these tools will align more closely with
agency needs, ensure the utmost control over data privacy and security and compliance with
applicable regulations, prevent vendor lock-in and keep AI expertise within the agency, which
will enable long-term self-sufficiency and innovation.

SoKat’s win at OCC comes on the heels of their becoming one of the first trusted AI advisors at
Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). These wins reflect SoKat’s continuing mission to
provide their expertise to the government for fostering internal AI capabilities, so that agencies
retain valuable expertise and insights. When agencies build AI competencies in-house,
supported by a trusted expert, they achieve more tailored, sustainable, and impactful solutions.
This user-driven approach, as opposed to a vendor-driven model, ensures long-term success
and adaptability, empowering the US government to lead by example in the global AI arena.
